bike ride

We found this bike trail in the farm lands near our place. I had no idea it was there. It was great and I think I will be spending a lot more time out there.

Mexican in Seoul - Found my roof

I recently took a trip to Seoul with Juli and our friend Ashley. We stopped for some fantastic mexican food. Don't get me wrong, I love the Korean food, but I will take a mexican meal whenever I can. Later in the week I climbed out a window and found the roof of our apartment, it's great! It's a good size space (there is a photo of half of it) and a good place to hang out and watch people, especially on market day across the street. There is a group of men across the street from us that are always playing some sort of gambling game... it looks like people playing dice at home. They all squat and throw money on the ground while one guy throws some sticks into a circle on the ground. I will videotape it when i get my new camera.... which brings me to my next bit of exciting news.

While in Seoul we visited a huge electronics building (8 floors). This place has virtually any electronic device you would want, including cameras, lenses, etc. There are a ton of different vendors that all have the same stuff, so you can go between then and get better prices. I am looking at getting a Nikon D90 and within 15 minutes i was offered a great price, about half of what i would pay at home. So I will be purchasing this weekend after I get paid. Juli will inherit my current camera. I was considering the Canon D5 Mark II, but I already have a great Nikon flash, and 3 Nikon lenses... so it would cost a fortune to replace all of those. If i stick with the D90, it is not quite as good as the Mark II, but i can't afford to switch... I also really do love Nikon. Either way, I am excited!

One last thing... if you are reading this and you are a photographer.... let me know before I leave Korea (like a year from now) and I will pick you up whatever lenses you want for a fantastic deal.

first week in korea

well, we are finally in korea. teaching has been great and i love our little city. we live right downtown across from "walking street" which is a rad place where no cars can get in and it is full of shops. we got some sweet matching korean bikes and have been riding them everywhere. these photos are: the place we like to eat (we call it orange), some SUPER spicy food we had there that blew my mind, our new bikes, and some pictures of the outdoor market on walking street.
more to come as our adventures continue!
